Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) will hold “The 2014 Korea Festival in Sri Lanka” at Galle Face Green on 22nd & 23rd November 2014. The main purpose of this festival is the mutual exchanging of the two countries’ cultures and to enhance international cooperation between Korea and Sri Lanka. This is the first time that this function is being held at Galle Face Green by enabling the general public to experience Korea and its culture.
There will be booths at the Galle face green and general public can experience Korean cultural activities as each booth has got different varieties of cultural activities such as Korean Face Painting, Korean Traditional costume “Hanbok” wearing, Korean Hand work, Korean Foods, Korean Traditional Acupuncture, Korean Martial Art “Taekwondo”, Korean Traditional Games “Chegi – Chagi”, KOICA promotional videos. Public can enjoy all these activities and experience Korean foods and undergo Korean Acupuncture treatment for free of cost and enjoy all the traditional Korean games and activities.
On the 23rd 7th Korean Language Speech Competition will be held at Crystal Ballroom, Taj Samudra Hotel, No. 25, Galle Face Center Road, Colombo 03 from 10:00 AM onwards. It will be a great opportunity for Korean Language speakers and academics to perform and get rewarded.
There will be Many VIP’s participating this festival including the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, H.E. CHANG Won-sam, Minister of Education, Bandula Gunawardana, Minister of Foreign Employment Promotion and Welfare, Dilan Perera, Minister of Skills Development and Youth Affairs, Dalus Allahapperuma, and the Resident Representative of KOICA office in Sri Lanka, CHO Kyu-Chan and other dignitaries and students from universities, Technical Colleges and schools from all parts of the island.
This time “2014 Korea Festival in Sri Lanka” is divided into two different sections as competitions consisting of students who are learning Korean Language and the cultural activities. Among all the competitions, there will be 10 final contestants and the judge will reward the winner of the Korean Language competition and the winner will presented various valuable gifts and a certificate.
As personal exchange between Korea and Sri Lanka is recently expanding, Sri Lankans’ concerns about Korea are also growing. Under its circumstance, KOICA will organize this contest to promote Sri Lankan people’s awareness of Korean Language and thereby accelerating cultural exchange between two countries.
This contest will be held as part of KOICA volunteers program designed to strengthen Sri Lanka’s human resources development by developing young and senior volunteers with appropriate knowledge and skills such as vocational training technicians, young athletes including Taekwondo and archery coaches, Korean language instructors and vocational school teachers at universities, schools and institutes all over Sri Lanka.
